Eye Candy in ‘Indie Boys’
I wasn’t expecting much from ‘Indie Boys’ but I was pleasantly surprised! I actually like it! Well, it has many imperfections but I’ve kinda lowered my standards for local gay indie movies to just a few criteria.
#1 There should be enough zizi scenes to keep me interested. CHECK. This movie has three (3) zizi scenes, albeit short, but still interesting! Guio Munoz, Charles Delgado and Kristoffer King go frontal in this movie and my favorite would be that of Charles, whose zizi scene appears in the end of the movie. It was interestingly, a little bit hard!
#2 It should have some funny moments. The presence of movie reporter Shalala provides some light moments and veteran actress, Anita Linda, probably provided the best funny scene here. Towards the end of the movie, she teaches the novice lead actor how to invite the public to watch the movie she just produced, in a teary-eyed way. Satire at its best! Also, the audition scenes are hilarious and cringe-worthy at the same time.
#3 No glamorization of poverty scenes. Yes, they are call boys. Yes, they sell their bodies for money. But I actually hate it when gay indie movies puts self-pity or glamorizes the poverty of the characters. In this movie, there was none. Poverty was presented as it is – as part of the characters in the movie.
#4 The presence of at least ONE HOT DUDE. For me it was Andrew Miguel. Not quite a thespian but he’s ok. Cute, hot and enough shirtless scenes. Sadly, no zizi scenes.
The movie is still showing at Robinson’s Galleria so go and catch it. There was a good crowd during the last full show on a Monday night. Not bad.
