Janez Vermeiren

Janez Vermeiren, born in 1978 in Cape Town, Belgium, is a South African-Belgian model and TV presenter, perhaps best known as one of the sexy DIY handymen for “Top Billing,” South Africa’s premier leisure and lifestyle TV show.

Vermeiren first came to South Africa as an infant (his mother being South African) and grew up speaking Dutch-Flemish in a liberal, open-minded artistic home. He studied at both English and Afrikaans schools, before heading back to Belgium after completing Matric to study further. After a year of dabbling in Archaeology, he changed direction and did a three year interior design course – which came in handy when he landed a job as Top Billing’s presenter.

Vermeiren’s first job as a model was for a worldwide “Fanta” ad and since then have shot over 100 local and international brands. Since then, he has appeared in billboards, innumerable TV and print ads, as well as gracing the “Woolworths” men’s underwear packaging with his athletically chiselled body.

In 2001, Vermeiren won a local beach competition called “Mr/Mrs Clifton” and in 2003, he entered and won the “Men’s Health Look of the Year” and was also “Storms” top male model for 5 seasons in a row – among innumerable other titles – before moving on and starting his own model agency “Full Circle Model Management” in 2007.

Apart from “Top Billing” and the modelling agency, Vermeiren also buys and sells old apartments. He renovates them on his spare time, usually in the winter.

Vermeiren loves socialising, going to coffee shops, going to restaurants. He also adds, “I love food. I eat a lot. People don’t understand why I don’t put on weight. Besides that, going to the beach – doing stuff in nature – being outdoors. I’m not the kind of guy that can sit in front of the TV with the Playstation. I’ve bought one but I don’t think I’ve ever finished a game.”
