American football quarterback – Tom Brady

Tom Brady, born August 3, 1977, is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League.

Brady graduated from Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, California, the same school that produced baseball player Barry Bonds and NFL Hall of Famer Lynn Swann. Brady attended the University of Michigan and led Michigan to an Orange Bowl victory in the 1999 season.

In the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady was selected by the New England Patriots in the 6th round (199th overall). Widely regarded as one of the best playoff quarterbacks of his era, Brady has won three Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX), two Super Bowl MVP awards (XXXVI,XXXVIII), and has been invited to four Pro Bowls; all with the Patriots.

Additionally, Brady was Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year in 2005, and was named to the AP All-Pro Team in 2005. He also helped set the record for the longest consecutive win streak in NFL history with 21 straight wins over two seasons.

American football quarterback – Tim Tebow

Timothy Richard “Tim” Tebow, born August 14, 1987, in the Philippines, is an American football quarterback for the Florida Gators.

Tebow was born in the Philippines to parents who were serving as Christian missionaries at the time. The Tebows later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Tim played linebacker and tight end at the local Trinity Christian Academy for one season.

Tebow’s performance as a quarterback soon began to turn some heads. He became the first college football player to both rush and pass for 20 touchdowns in a season and was the first underclassman to win the Heisman Trophy.

Tebow played quarterback for Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where he became a Division I-A recruit and ranked among the top quarterback prospects in the nation as a senior.

Tebow, being a dual threat quarterback adept at rushing and passing the football, was used in his freshman season largely as a change of pace to the Gators’ more traditional quarterback, Chris Leak. His contribution in the 2006 college football season was as a key reserve that helped the Gators win college football’s national championship game for the first time since 1996.

As a sophomore in the 2007 season, he became the Gators’ starting quarterback and broke the Southeastern Conference records for both rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns accounted for in a single season.

In addition to the Heisman Trophy, his performance in 2007 also earned him the Maxwell Award as the nation’s top football player, the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s best quarterback, and the James E. Sullivan Award as the nation’s most outstanding amateur athlete in any sport.

American Olympic diver – Troy Dumais

Troy Dumais, born January 21, 1980 in Ventura, California, is an American Olympic diver of French Canadian descent. He is best known for representing the United States in the 2000 Olympic Games, 2004 Olympic Games, and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Troy attended the University of Texas at Austin. He was raised in a family of divers and swimmers, and in 1994 was named Southern Pacific Association Diver of the Year in his class, as were all his siblings.

In 2004, Dumais placed 6th in the Summer Games Men’s 3m Synchronized Spring Board with his brother, Justin Dumais. In 2005, he won Bronze and Silver medals in the World Championships and repeated this feat in the 2006 World Cup.

In 2008, Dumais represented the United States in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games placing 6th in the Men’s 3m Individuals to make his 3rd 6th place Olympic finish in a row.

When not diving, Dumais enjoys listening to music and playing video games. He also sees himself working as physical therapist someday.

Ted Ligety, born August 31, 1984, in Salt Lake City, Utah, is an American alpine ski racer with the U.S. Ski Team. He is the reigning World Cup champion in the giant slalom as of 2009.

Ligety was on skis at two and began racing at 11. Skiing is truly a passion for Ligety, who said he skis “for the feeling I get when I’m linking arcs or getting face shots. There is always a variation in every turn and run. I could ski everyday for the rest of my life and never get bored.”

Ligety grew up in Park City, Utah, where he caught the eye of U.S. Ski Team coaches. They watched him for a while before naming him to the U.S. Development Team. Given that opening for international racing, Ligety didn’t fumble his chance.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Ligety won the gold medal in the men’s combined event. At age 21, he became the first American man to win an Olympic gold medal in alpine skiing. His Olympic victory in the combined came a month before his first World Cup victory, a win in the giant slalom in Yongpyeong, South Korea.

The Olympic champion won the season-long World Cup giant slalom title in 2008. Through the 2008 season, he had three World Cup victories (all in giant slalom), 12 podiums, and 41 top ten finishes.

During his spare time, Ligety loves to hang with friends and play all sports, especially enjoys biking and waterskiing.
