The stigma connected with a beautiful man is someone who is an Adonis with well-sculpted musculatures,regarded by some as a gigolo who play around with women. Some cynics regarded them as “all brawn but no brains,” all bulging anatomy but a dismal airhead. Dante Balboa is a far from these caricaturish impressions. He is a college professor who teaches Languages, Literature and Philosophy something people , even his fans will not believe, since he was a part of the trashy titillitating movies in his time. Before all this, Dante was also a pageant wannabe having graduated valedictorian with the now defunct Mr. Young Philippines. He then went to join Manhunt Philippines afterwards ,where he placed second to Sol Cruz. and Junell Custudio. These near-wins became his passport to Seiko films where he was transported to the world of forgettable sexflicks.His filmograhy includes: Temptasyon, Takaw Tingin, Karelasyon, and Kasiping.

Mr. Young Venezuela is barely on its third year but it can churn out deserving candidates that can either make or break hopes, dreams and hearts. Year in and year out Venezuela never fails to bring us more surprises especially one of masculine package and trimmings. And I was looking at the roster of candidates as well as as the previous winners of Mr. Young Venezuela, one wonders why Venezuela has the monopoly of owning such gorgeuous specimen of manly beauty that equals the sum of the trophies they earned each year. Other countries
can’t help … but traces and residue of jealousy and envy is in the air.

We heard about stories of stars or models discovered when they were just walking in the street or eating in a nearby kiosk and the fairy godmother happened to pass by and vavavoom … their magic wand worked overtime as they promised them heaven and earth …. and sprayed them gold and silver … and the recipient of the lustful or lasting attention …. is now your matinee idol making pa-cute on screen … or the king of the ramp drawing ooohs … and muffled aaahs from adoring fans and supporters.

The stories had been retold … and the events recycled … as history repeats time and again. Talents scouts had their own way of luring who is creamy and who is dreamy in the biz. Whether it is an artista search or a men’s pageant … they never fail to bring the goods.

Starmalls … now on its fourth year is deluged by this talent and scouts tandems wanting to test the waters… as they bring us Heatwave 2010: The Summer Bikini Showdown, a mano-a mano wrestling between models 18-25 … models who can walk the walk, and talk the talk.

Aside from Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Colombia, Brazil is starting to get notice especially after they won once in Mr. World . That was followed strongly when Lukas Gil figured prominently in China in the last edition of Mr. World. A lot of pageant aficionados even said that if Brazil was not the last Mr. World , maybe Lukas Gil could have made it as this years Mr. World.

Pageant Candidates- Mr. Handsome International 2007

This October after Miss Internationalwas heavily contested in Japan , Miss Earth is percolating in the Philippines and early report said the finals will be made at the UP Theater on November 11, 2007. On the male side, Mr. Handsome International 2007 is painting the town red as Dominican Republic played host again to this new pageant, and this is their fourth consecutive year to be exact. I just want to take this opportunity to thank friends like Julio Rodriguez and Alberto Maneiro Restrepo for being generous enough to share the whole world awesome pictures that make Mr. Handsome International one contest we could not ignore. This workaholic duo are the head honcho of major beauty pageants in Venezuela, and without their efforts, maybe we are in limbo again. The photos they have taken for us remind us there is more to the contest that meets the eye. They are the witness to the backstage drama , and their individual sessions with the candidates makes the experience more tangible, we felt we are also a part of the experience. To Julio and Alberto, more power … and more success.
