Los Angeles Actor – Tyrese

Tyrese (Gibson) was born December 30, 1978 in Watts Quarters, Los Angeles, California, USA.

pic0138

Since the late 1990s, Tyrese has made his mark in a number of fields: as a model; as a Grammy-nominated singer; and as an actor.

Tyrese went from the troubled streets of Watts to almost overnight stardom as a model, singer and actor. First sporting Tommy Hilfiger duds, then being an exclusive Guess? model, Tyrese also spent some years recording albums — Tyrese (1998) and 2000 Watts (2000) — and acting on television and in film.

pic069

Since his first explosion onto the entertainment scene, Tyrese has released another album, I Wanna Go There (2002), as well as making the jump to movies, starting with John Singleton’s Baby Boy (2001), and in 2003, 2 Fast 2 Furious with Paul Walker.

Yet even as his star rises, Tyrese doesn’t let it all get to his head. Coming from an underprivileged background, Tyrese gives back through a number of worthy charities, especially the one he founded himself, 2000 Watts — so he’s not only a stylish newcomer, he’s a philanthropist too.

Interview with ANDREA MEYER
Q: Are you still modeling?

Answer: From time to time. I’ve had the privilege of working with photographers like Bruce Weber on an Abercrombie & Fitch campaign, and stuff like that. It’s fun. It’s a wonderful way to spend a day, to have a bunch of disparate people chase one common aesthetic image.

Q:You’ve got a burgeoning acting career and a solid on-the-side job to fall back on–things must be looking pretty good from where you’re sitting.

Answer: Well, I’m 24. I don’t have a good credit rating yet, and I don’t get to be a delinquent anymore, either. James Dean, Keats, all the poets were on their way out at my age. I’ll be alright, I think, as long as I don’t do anything dumb in the next 10 years. But that’s a lot to ask. [pauses] Some people think before they jump off a wall, some people think whether to get up on the wall at all, and I think as I’m jumping off the wall. And generally what I’m thinking is, Oh shit! [laughs]

Q:Which means?

Answer: It means you break a lot of bones, but it also means you have a hell of a lot of fun.
